Synonym: None.
Special status: None.
Recognition: Oil bodies generally cylindrical, 8-14 per cell, clear, glistening; lateral margins of underleaves sinuose or irregular; stem cells elongate, usually more than 2:1 (length:width); caducous leaves evident, always pure, light green. Toothing of leaf tip extremely variable, but frequently 3-dentate.
Distribution: On logs and rotting wood; western Oregon, more common along the coast, more common northwards; circumboreal.
Comments: Hong (1978) cites Miller & Shushan (1964) for his placing of this in the state flora. Schuster (1969) reports it from Washington, not Oregon. See B.ambigua and Schofield's comments (1968). Hong (Evansia, 1989) points out underleaf and stem cell characters that distinguish this from B.ambigua (see discussion under that).
