Guide to Liverworts of Oregon: Key to Calypogeia 1
HOME SPECIES INDEX GENUS INDEX GLOSSARY
1b plants leafy > 3b leaves not divided, not ciliate > 6a oil bodies 2+ or unknown > 7b no small dorsal lobe > 10b leaves incubous > 20b lobule absent > 23b lobule absent > 24a Calypogeia
This genus is relatively easy to work with if fresh, so this key is based on fresh material. Identifying dry material requires extensive experience with the local representatives of the genus. Note that Calypogeia is the worst when it comes to oil body longevity: its oil bodies dissipate faster than any hepatic genus except Chiloscyphus. Keep collections moist until oil body data are recorded; refrigeration recommended.
