Special Status: None.
Recognition: A small liverwort with sharply pointed, bilobed leaves. The lobes are folded together without a sharp crease, sometimes very closely overlapping. The cuticle is strongly grayish-blue pruinose, making it remarkably hydrophobic. Perianths taper towards the mouth, and are plicate. The tips of the perianth are white, often strongly so, giving them a distinctive appearance.
Distribution: On rocks and soil, occasionally on tree bark; mostly at lower elevations but extending up into the mountains.
Comments: Frequently ecountered in our area. This is one of the species that is found also in northern Europe but not in eastern North America.
