Special Status: None.
Recognition: Distinginguished by large spores with reticulate ornamentation. Coastal populations have capsules immersed in the involucre, while capsules of subalpine plants are elevated on a short seta.
Distribution: On damp soil in wetlands and lake margins, in the coastal dunes and also at high elevations in the mountains.
Comments: A member of the boreal element that has both coastal and high montane extensions from the north. The coastal plants might prove to be taxonomically distinct from the montane populations.
