Guide to Liverworts of Oregon: Gymnomitrion concinnatum (Lightf.) Corda
HOME SPECIES INDEX GENUS INDEX GLOSSARY
Gymnomitrion 1b leaf margins entire, plane Gymnomitrion concinnatum
Synonym: None
Special Status: ORBIC List 2.
Recognition: The small, julaceous stems are characteristic of the genus; this species has a greenish color, varying to yellowish-brown, in contrast to the white character of G. obtusum. Gymnomitrion concinnatum also differs in having plane leaf margins (vs. recurved in G. obtusum) and acute, entire leaf lobes (vs. rounded, crenulate in G. obtusum). The cuticle is usually finely papillose but this can be difficult to demonstrate, as in the leaf lobe from Jefferson County, Oregon illustrated below.
Distribution: At the time of writing, known in Oregon only from McNeil Point, Mt. Hood, on the Multnomah-Hood River County line, and on Three-fingered Jack in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness.
Comments: The Oregon plants had a distinct greenish cast when collected.
