Special Status: None.
Recognition: Pinnately branched shoots; incubous leaves with four sharp lobes that appear to clasp the stem. Small plants might resemble Kurzia but that has leaf lobes divided to the base.
Distribution: On rotting wood; from low to high elevations in the mountains. Common in moist woods, Tsuga forest zones.
Comments: One of the most distinctive of our liverworts whose beauty is revealed with magnification. Another species, Lepidozia filamentosa (Lehm. & Lindenb.) Lindenb., has been reported from Washington (Hong 1988a). It is more robust, with leaves more nearly transverse, and has flagelliform branches
