Reboulia hemisphaerica (L.) Raddi
Synonym: None.
Special Status: This is an uncommon liverwort.
Recognition: This is one of only two thalloid liverworts in our area that has thickenings in the corners of its epidermal cells. The other, Targionia, bears sporophytes on the underside of its thallus. Reboulia has star-shaped, stalked carpocephala.
Distribution: Grows on soil. Known in western Oregon only from the Willamette River south of Portland and in the Sandy River Gorge. Lush population on Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge.
Comments: Probably scattered through alpine regions of northeastern Oregon but exploration of this region for liverworts is not at all thorough at this point in time. It appears to be frequent in the gravel tills of the Columbia River Gorge.
