HOME         SPECIES INDEX         GENUS INDEX         GLOSSARY

Scapania 1 oil bodies several per cell > Scapania 2b marginal teeth evenly spaced or lacking > Scapania 3b dorsal lobe not decurrent > Scapania 5b ventral lobe not decurrent > Scapania 8b marginal cells without thickened cell walls > Scapania 9b 2-6 large oil bodies > Scapania mucronata

Synonym: None.

Special Status: Recognize solitary locality. Should be List 2.

Recognition: Both lobes non-decurrent, dentate only at apex of gemmiferous leaves. Oil bodies large, filling most of the cell lumen. Dorsal lobe smaller in relation to ventral lobe in comparison to S. irrigua.

Distribution: Small plants on rocks in the mountains, known to me in Oregon only from literature records. Schuster (1974) cites Evans (1936) for listing Oregon in distribution of this species. Schofield (1978) reports this from Saddle Mountain, Clatsop County.

Comments: Past records need to be critically re-examined; if identification is verified, it can be added to list of rare species.
