Guide to Liverworts of Oregon: Frullania bolanderi Aust.
HOME SPECIES INDEX GENUS INDEX GLOSSARY
Frullania 1a lobule helmet shaped > Frullania bolanderi
Synonym: None.
Special Status: None.
Recognition: The small size is itself diagnostic in Oregon. The presence of erect, flagelliform shoots with caducous microphylls is absolutely diagnostic but not obvious unless one knows to look for them.
Distribution: Grows on the bark of hardwood trees; widespread in western Oregon, more common in the southwestern part of the state.
Comments: In the North Cascades of Washington there is another small species, Frullania hattoriana. It lacks flagelliform branches and is autoicous. The collections I have seen were all collected on Alaska yellow cedar.
