Synonym: Lophoziopsis excisa (Dicks.) Konstant. et Vilnet
Special Status: None.
Recognition: Purplish-red, angular gemmae on bilobed leaves; paroicous. Soil habitat is important character. This species is similar to L. bicrenata, which, however, does not have as brightly colored gemmae nor as many oilbodies.
Distribution: On mineral soil or at least soil with minimal organic content; widespread at higher elevations.
Comments: This species appears to be relatively abundant in the subalpine of the west side Cascades. There is a large population at Salt Creek Falls in Lane County. The synonym is a recent segregate, based on studies of molecular phylogeny (Konstantinova and Vilnet, 2009).
