Recognition: This species is characterized by its small size; leaves tightly overlapping; warm, brownish color; oil bodies in all cells. "Especially distinctive are the julaceous shoots with red-gold to chestnut-brown secondary pigmentation and leaves with lunate sinus and with oil bodies in all cells including the marginal cells. (Godfrey & Schofield 1979)"
Distribution: On compact, peaty soil; arctic-alpine. There are only two sites known in Oregon: McNeil Point, Mt. Hood, Multnomah County, Oregon (DHW 2375) and just north of Mt. Jefferson, Park Ridge, Mt. Jefferson Wilderness, Marion County, Oregon (DHW m2894).
Comments: May turn up on other subalpine to alpine sites in the Oregon Cascades.
